Many Calgarians were greeted by warning tickets Monday morning when they arrived at their vehicle.
The city declared its first ever Snow Event Sunday, meaning parking bans were put in effect for up to 72 hours on all snow routes marked by blue signs with a white snow flake.
However, many Calgarians are telling 660News they weren’t aware of the ban.
An early morning count on one snow route in Marda Loop had over 30 vehicles still parked on the road despite the ban.
Bobby, who lives along a snow route on 33rd Avenue SW, says there wasn’t a lot of info from the city to residents and he didn’t even know about the new city initiative.
“It’s a big problem for us, much like earlier in the day when we can’t even park here between 3:30 – 6:00 in the afternoon,” says Bobby.
He likes the idea, but adds a little more notice would have been nice.
“The signs went up, and they were like, well, we’re just going to put up the signs,” he claims.
Some areas are exempt from the parking ban during the day, including most routes downtown, while handicapped zones are always exempt from the by-law.
