Calgary couple dies while vacationing in Mexico

Mexican authorities are reporting a Calgary couple has died off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
They are identifying them as James and Jane Reimi.
The bodies of a man in his 70s and a woman in her late 50s were found Sunday in the town of Progresso along the northwest coast.
Just before 2:00a.m. Monday, Duty Inspector Paul Stacey says Calgary Police received a phone call from another couple that the Calgarians were missing and presumed drowned.
“We weren’t able to confirm that this couple was actually in any peril or whether they died or not but my understanding is that the department of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with dealing with the officials down in Mexico on this matter,” says Stacey.
According to media reports, the husband swam out into the water to save his wife, who showed signs of distress.
Their bodies were found floating near the shore at around 10:00 p.m. local time Sunday.
In a statement to 660News, Foreign Affairs says they are standing by, ready to provide consular assistance to any family members.
