First Nations deny pipeline deal

Chiefs of a Northern B.C. first nation say they are “in shock” and “embarrassed” following an announcement by Enbridge declaring the Aboriginal community had become a partner in the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project.
The energy giant made the announcement Friday with Gitxsan Hereditary Chief Elmer Derrick in attendance.
But two other chiefs say most of the other 63 chiefs had no idea the deal had was coming.
They tell The Vancouver Sun the $7-million benefit is irrelevant, because it goes nowhere to compensate the Gitxsan for any damage to fishing stocks should there be a spill.
