New bill goes after complacent construction companies

Construction companies in the province will soon have to clean up their act.
Private Member’s Bill 205 has passed in the Alberta Legislature, giving municipalities the clear authority to demand improvement of the appearance and usage of a construction site within a specified timeframe.
Dave Taylor, The Alberta Party MLA for Calgary-Currie, and the one who drafted the bill tells 660News, it will help municipalities more effectively deal with problem sites by clarifying who has the authority to step in in situations where a development has been significantly stalled, suspended or delayed.
He says one of the worst examples in the province is the area nicknamed “the pit” on 4th Street Southwest in Mission which has sat partially completed for the last 10 years.
Recently, residents have been promised construction will be well underway by the end of 2011.
