Calgarians getting caught parking at handicap spots

The Calgary Parking Authority is reminding drivers to leave the handicap spots to the people that need them.

Since the Accessible Parking Awareness campaign began in late November, Troy MacLeod from the parking authority tells 660News they’ve handed out a number of tickets.

“Since the campaign started, we’ve had in the order of just over 200. In the month of December last year, we handed out over 600 tickets during that month which is a peak month for that type of infraction,” MacLeod says.

MacLeod says many of the infractions have occurred at shopping malls.

The fine starts at $200 if paid within 10 days and climbs to $300 after 30 days.
