The tab is in for this past summer’s tour by Will and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
It cost Canadian taxpayers about $2.2 million for the cross-country tour, but that doesn’t include the bill local municipalities had to bear.
The itemized tab includes about a million dollars of spending for security detail by the Mounties. Of that, $670,000 was paid out in overtime to RCMP officers.
Canadian Heritage spent another $1.2 million on travel, accommodations and events associated with the royal visit.
But according to the Calgary Herald, $2.2 million wasn’t the total cost of the royal trek across the country.
Although numbers aren’t available for the visit to Calgary, it cost Ottawa Police an additional $188,000 to supplement RCMP security during the royals appearances in the Canadian capital.
