The snowbanks along the roadsides are a magnet for kids, but they can prove potentially fatal for children.
Tracey Warren with ChildSafe Canada says it may seem like common sense to us, but to a kid it just looks like fun.
Warren says she has seen kids make a snow fort in the snow along roadways and if a grader came along it would be deadly.
In addition, she says, whenever kids make snow forts it should involve parental supervision because the heavy, wet snow is more likely to collapse and cause suffocation.
She recommends trying to sell an open-roof type fort, like a castle, to the kids. If they want a roof, Warren recommends just using a blanket.
