Hosting safe holiday parties

There’s more to hosting a holiday party than just making sure everyone’s got a drink in their hand.

Hosts are also responsible for the safety of their guests, and while accidents happen, they can be costly for homeowners.

State Farm spokesman John Bordignon says hosts should warn their guests about hazards like steep stairs, loose gravel on the driveway or even holes in the ground in the backyard.

“Most homeowners policies cover things like bodily injury and property damage,” said Bordignon. “We also provide legal defence if a homeowner gets sued in a court case as a result of an occurrence that might have happened that is covered under the policy.”

If kids are coming to the party, hosts should make sure to safely store anything potentially dangerous that could attract them, he added.
