More affordable housing for seniors

More than 250 seniors and people with disabilities in the Calgary area will soon have affordable housing thanks to a funding infusion from the province.
$21.5 million will go to help fund four projects in addressing the province’s aging population.
It’s part of a larger funding plan across Alberta.
Parliamentary Assistant to Alberta Seniors Alana DeLong calls the announcement good news.
“These are real homes we’re building now with the supports that seniors really need and so it’s really great to see this move ahead,” says DeLong.
Liberal critic Harry Chase says it’s not good enough.
“This is the concern: Out of this announcement only 30 long-term care beds across the entire province has been added,” says Chase.
Without the amount of needed beds, Chase estimates more than 600 seniors are taking up acute care space, costing Albertans thousands of extra dollars.
