Head on crash kills young family in B.C.

It’s a heartbreaking tragedy, just before Christmas.
A young mother travelling from Calgary to her home in Burnaby, B.C. has been killed in a car crash along with her two daughters, aged four and six.
The collision happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday evening on the TransCanada highway, west of Rogers Pass.
RCMP aren’t sure why the driver lost control of her car and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a semi-trailer head-on.
Sgt Mike Pears says the roads were in good winter driving condition so investigators are looking at whether there were any mechanical issues with the SUV.
“We’re also looking at, unfortunately the driver, whether it be due to inattention or falling asleep or whatever the case may be, she may have been distracted by one of the girls in the back seat.”
He says the driver of the semi is physically uninjured, but likely emotionally scarred.
Sgt. Pears adds if one good thing comes out of this tragedy, it would be that drivers take more care on the roads heading to and from holiday celebrations.
