Price sticker shock for power consumers

Gasoline, food and now there’s another inflationary source for Albertans.
According to the Alberta Utilities Commission, power consumers not on fixed contracts will pay almost double for electricity, next month, than they did a year earlier.
In January, Enmax will be charging consumers that aren’t on a fixed rate 15.284 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity. That compares to 7.894 cents just 12 months earlier.
The Calgary Herald reports the rise in energy prices can be attributed to outages at major coal-fired power plants in the province.
