Avalanche risk high

If you are planning on hitting the slopes this weekend, Parks Canada says you need to be careful out there, as the risk of an avalanche is high.
The snow pack hasn’t had time to adjust to the new snow fall.
Visitor safety specialist with Parks Canada, Lisa Paulson says a natural avalanche is likely, a human triggered avalanche is very likely, and travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
“And the thing that makes this weekend particularly spooky is that we know people have all this new equipment for Christmas and we have all this wonderful new snow and then as it gets sunny on the weekend. The lure to go into the untouched powdered slopes is probably going to be quite high, and that’s when we might see some avalanche incidents,” she says.
She says if you are heading out Saturday, be aware that avalanche control will close the Trans-Canada Highway mid-day through Yoho National Park.
