Alberta’s energy minister, environment minister and industry leaders are all promising to be more open and transparent when it comes to hydraulic fracturing in the province.
Hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, is a process where water and chemicals are forced down a well, helping improve the flow of oil and gas.
However, the process has also produced environmental concerns with a number of complaints in both Canada and the U.S. about ground, air and water contamination.
Energy Minister Ted Morton tells The Calgary Herald the province is pushing ahead with a regulatory overhaul.
The president of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers says the industry supports water testing tied to hydraulic fracturing.
