New map helps identify Keystone’s alternative routes

TransCanada says Nebraska’s newly-issued map of environmentally-sensitive areas will help pin down alternative routes for its controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline.
The U.S. State Department surprised the pipeline’s supporters in November by ordering the Calgary-based company to reroute the $7-billion pipeline.
Supporters say the proposed pipeline will create 20,000 jobs and help find new refinery markets for Alberta’s growing oilsands production.
Billionaire Donald Trump is among those throwing his support behind the project.
Opponents say it is an environmental disaster in the making.
The pipeline is designed to carry oil from Alberta across Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to refineries on the gulf coast.
A final decision on the project is not expected until after the 2012 U.S. presidential election.
