On Dec. 30, 1981, Wayne Gretzky set one of his incredible records, scoring 50 goals in 39 games.
The Great One was shattered by the Soviets’ 8-1 victory in the Canada Cup that year so he vowed to reinvent himself, and he did just that.
By Christmas Day, the Oilers’ star scored 41 goals in 37 games; he scored four more in a game Dec. 27.
Then, in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers three days later, he scored an astounding five goals to take the record.
