City employees racking up sick days

The number of sick days taken by City of Calgary employees has sky-rocketed.

The Calgary Sun reports that last year city staff racked up over 109,000 sick days, an increase of 9 per cent from the year before.

That amounted to 21.5 million dollars of lost time.

The City has now put out tenders for a private firm to review the system, which currently only requires medical evidence for absences of more than five days in a row.

The review is expected to be finished by next fall.
