Environmental battles could heat up in 2012

The Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada predicts the coming year will be a difficult for the environmental movement.

John Bennett tells 660News efforts to green things up in Canada were dealt a serious blow when the Federal Tories won a majority at the polls.

Bennett says instead of debating the merits of expanding energy production, the Federal Government and Industry leaders are more interested in discrediting their opposition.

He says he understands the world has an insatiable appetite for Oil but Canada doesn’t need to act like a Heroin dealer.

Sierra Club Canada vows to keep the pressure on, and will continue to lobby against both the Keystone XL pipeline project and the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline to the west coast.
