World Junior tourney could see big profits

Team Canada fans are throwing more money around than anticipated, with profits expected to double expectations at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship.
Hockey Canada tells The Calgary Sun the tournament could see profits between $18-million and $20-million.
After fees, half of the profits will go to Hockey Canada to go towards recruitment and retention, developing Hockey Canada’s registry as well as to move coaching, officiating and safety coordinating online.
Thirty-five per cent of the cash goes to the Canadian Hockey League for scholarship programs and education initiatives.
The remaining 15 per cent will be split between Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada’s other branches.
