Farmers are among those expressing concern about the lack of snow and cold so far during the winter of 2011/2012.
Growers need the snow to help boost soil moisture levels and to help protect their top soil from the wind, which has been blowing hard.
Jerry Bouma who is a partner with Toma and Bouma Management Consultants tells 660News the normal cold winter conditions also help keep insects and fungi in check.
Bouma says if old man winter doesn’t show up and soon, farmers could have some serious problems to deal with later in the year.
The unusually warm conditions could also cause problems for local golf courses, producing what’s called winter kill conditions on fairways and greens.
