It was a downed power line that triggered a grass fire that scorched five homes, several outbuildings and even lead to the death of several animals in Nanton Wednesday.
FortisAlberta tells 660 News they do annual maintenance and test power poles regularly and those that are deemed unsafe are either repaired or replaced.
“We always make sure that our system is storm hardened in areas where conditions like these may occur,” says Director of Communications, Jennifer MacGowan.
There are still about 30 customers without power in the Nanton area, but FortisAlberta has called in extra crews and equipment from the Airdrie area to help ensure the lights are turned back on before Friday morning.
