Alberta is Canada’s job creation leader in 2011

Wildrose Country ended the year with the lowest unemployment in the country.

Statistics Canada reports despite the economy creating 17,500 jobs last month, while the national unemployment rate rose a touch to 7.5 per cent.

Alberta’s jobless rate fell a bit now running at 4.9 per cent; the lowest in the land.

BMO’S deputy chief economist says Alberta’s economy managed to create jobs throughout the year, while nationally, job creation pretty much tanked in the second half of 2011.

Doug Porter expects Alberta will continue to lead the country in job creation in 2012, with more people migrating west.

Calgary’s unemployment rate is higher than the provincial average running at 5.5 per cent, but that is still two full percentage points better than the national average.

Young workers, those between 15 and 24, are still having the most difficult time finding work.
