Building permits third highest in history

The city of Calgary recorded its third highest year ever for building permits in 2011.
They totalled more than $4.54 billion up from $2.91 billion in 2010.
The city’s General Manager of Planning, Development and Assessment says construction values are at some of the highest levels Calgary has ever seen, with significant sources coming from apartment and commercial building.
“In just one year the city has bounced back from a three-year decline in building permit values thanks in part to big gains in the commercial and apartment sectors. In general, new commercial and apartment spending is a good sign for Calgary’s economy.” said Watson.
The peak for permits in Calgary was in 2007 with $5.62 billion in estimated construction value.
