AUMA calls for new ways to fund cities

With municipal debts climbing, the head of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association is calling for the province to find new ways of funding its cities.
Linda Sloan tells the Calgary Sun, Calgary and Edmonton together owe more than $4-billion.
She says property taxes and grants are no longer enough to shoulder payments while also dealing with crumbling infrastructure.
Sloan wants the premier to get a committee working on a new municipal funding model.
Alison Redford has agreed there needs to be a new formula and is not ruling out a gas tax to help.
