Firefighters spend four hours dousing blaze in southeast

A stubborn house blaze kept Calgary fire crews busy for over four hours in the city’s southeast community of Ramsey.
The flame broke out around 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at 2105 9th Street southeast, in the basement, which was difficult for firefighters because the main floor was weakened.
Battalion Chief Larry Fisher said by the time crews got to the house, the family was safe with no injuries.
“A man, a woman and a teenager were living in the home, all the people were out of the house, the dog we had a little bit of a problem with, he ran back into the fire,” he said. “Firefighters went back in after the dog.”
That dog was rescued, but another canine remains missing.
The home is estimated to be over 100 years old.
There is no estimate of damage at this time and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Everyone from the house has been provided with shelter.
