High wind forces downtown street closure

High-winds are once again causing problems in downtown Calgary.
Some chicken-wire has dislodged from a 40-story building in the 700 block of 8th Avenue southwest, forcing the fire department to close down the block to all drivers and pedestrians.
Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic are closed on 8 Avenue SW from 5th Street to 7th Street for public safety. In addition to the 8 Avenue closure, 6 Street northbound at 9 avenue is closed to vehicle traffic.
Fire department spokesperson Brian McAsey tells says it wont be until Tuesday morning that the street re-opens as the high-winds make it too dangerous to activate the high-angle team.
McAsey says he’s seen debris blow off roofs of other buildings as well, so he’s asking residents to secure anything that has the potential to blow away.
