Motown likes a Korean car

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra has won top honours at the International Auto Show in Detroit.

A jury of 50 independent journalists named the small car the North American Car of the Year.

“It’s got everything going for it,” says 660News automotive specialist Tim Dimopolous who adds the win shouldn’t come as a big surprise. “It’s finish is great.  The design on it, particularly, is what sets it apart.  It’s a nice car to look at.  It’s probably far more interesting from a design standpoint than the other vehicles in its class.  It’s chock full of features like heated front and rear seats which, you know, is unheard of.”

Dimopolous says the added features are giving Toyota and Honda a run for their money.  But there’s more.

“It’s very capable,” adds Dimopolous of the Elantra.  “It’s very fuel efficient.  Very safe.  It’s pretty much got everything going for it.  It doesn’t surprise me that it won.”

It’s the second time the Hyunda Elantra has won the award.

The Range Rover’s Evoque was chosen as Truck of the Year.
