The Federation of Calgary Communities has launched a new program.
It’s a pilot project with the emphasis on crime prevention through community engagement.
The communities of Crescent Heights, Rosscarrock and Southwood have been selected to take part in the initial wave with more to be added at a later date.
“This is an exciting pilot project where neighbours will work together to reduce crime and increase feelings of safety in their own neighbourhoods,” says Leslie Evans, Executive Director of the Federation of Calgary Communities.
Building Safe Communities also includes a virtual resource centre housing tip sheets, safety audits and needs assessments for both groups and individuals.
It follows the closing of the Calgary Community Block Watch Council.
Currently there are 149 communities associations in Calgary.
