Man pinned under crane

A man is in very rough shape following an industrial accident in the city’s southeast.

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux says EMS and Calgary Fire were called to the overpass construction project at Highway 22x and 52nd Street around 2:00 p.m. to reports a man in his 20’s was pinned under a piece of heavy equipment.

“With the assistance of construction crews at the scene, EMS and Fire were able to free the patient,” says Brideaux.

Brideaux says the man was transported to Foothills Hospital in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

Fire spokesperson Brian McAsey says the man got pinned under the equipment when the machine moving the crane-boom hinged upon itself.

The crane was being disassembled and placed on a flatbed truck at the time of the incident.
