Mustard Seed preparing for bone chilling week

The weather is expected to drop to minus 32 over the next few days, with the warmest day of the week set for Friday at a cold minus 17.
Bone chilling temps in Calgary pushes the City’s homeless shelters to their max, seeing upwards of 400 people every day.
Winter conditions below minus 15 put a strain on all staff and financial resources for city shelters, so leading up to expected cold snaps, they ensure they are stocked with supplies and staff are fully prepared.
According to Alyssa Burnham from the Mustard Seed at this point, anybody who is outside is coming in from the cold, except for only a few.
“For those individuals who, for what ever reason are choosing not to come and seek shelter, we’re also sending outreach teams out,” said Burnham.
“They’re armed with supplies like gloves and toques, perhaps a snack, or something just to help them get through these really difficult days.”
The Seed is in great need of warm gloves and warm winter clothing, which can be donated at their Downtown or Foothills locations.
