Protestors vs. logging company at Castle Wilderness area

It’s time to pack up and move along.

That’s the message from the Spray Lakes Sawmills to the protestors camped out at the Castle Wilderness area, west of Pincher Creek.

Public affairs officer Duncan MacDonnell, tells 660News the notice of development delivered to the protestors is clear.

“It’s not vacant pubilc land, so we just formally notified them of that, that by staying there, they are trespassing and we have asked them to cease that immediately and a failure to comply may result in enforcement action,” he said.

A few dozen environmentalists with the Castle Crown Wilderness Coalition and local residents have barricaded the road to the logging site since Jan. 11th.

The group claims the land is an important wilderness passage and that development would place undue stress on the area.
