There’s an election in the air!

It’s yet another sign that a provincial election is in the not too distant future.
Saturday, the Redford Tories are holding nomination meetings in five ridings. Next weekend they have another 12 nomination meetings. In all, the Progressive Conservative nomination is still up for grabs in 30 of 87 provincial ridings.
They include the ticket for Calgary-McCall, a seat now held by Darshan Kang of the Alberta Liberals but coveted by the Tories. PC Constituency President Dale Galbraith tells the Calgary Herald he predicts that 2500 party members will vote today for one of the 10 candidates vying for the nomination.
Another riding where change is in the wind is Calgary-West. It’s currently held by Finance Minister Ron Lieppert who’s retiring with the next election call. Four people are vying for the nomination in that riding.
Next weekend the focus will be on the Highwood riding. Like Lieppert, the popular George Groeneveld is stepping down. Despite the fact Groeneveld is the incumbent, the riding is far from a sure better for whoever wins the nomination. The nominee will have their hands full, thanks to the fact that Wildrose leader Danielle Smith is also running in the riding.
