Beaten Calgarian won’t be coming home soon

Shelia Nabb remains in a medically-induced coma in a Mexican hospital after being viciously beaten last week while staying at a 5-star resort hotel in Mazatlan.
The 37-year-old needs to undergo several rounds of reconstructive surgery; nearly all of the bones in her face were broken in the attack.
Family members say the beating only targeted her face with no injuries found anywhere else on her body.
Mexican authorities say they are following up all leads and officials with Canada’s Foreign Affairs Office say they are monitoring the investigation.
Despite video surveillance cameras and security guards at the Riu Emerald Bay resort, Nabb’s attacker or attackers are still on the loose.
It was hoped Nabb would be flown home in the coming days to recover, but it now appears she will be in a Mexican hospital for a few more weeks.
Even though the Nabb did purchase travel insurance, friends and colleagues have set-up a trust fund, donations can be made at any TD Canada Trust branch.
Canada’s official travel warning for Mexico includes Mazatlan, an area that has experienced a surge in violence related to organized crime.
