GreenTRIP injects funding into Airdrie transit

Airdrie residents will soon have more choices when using public transit as the city’s fleet is growing with funding from the Alberta Government’s Green Transit Incentives Program or GreenTRIP.
GreenTRIP is a $2 billion program that provides funding to support new and expanded public transit throughout Alberta.
Under the program, the City of Airdrie will receive up to $2.8 million for additional buses and shuttles, a variety of public transit improvements including maintenance of the current buses and shuttles along with upgrades to the garage and maintenance facility.
Airdrie’s transit system provides both local service as well as commuter service to Calgary through its intercity express, also known as ICE.
Transportation Minister Ray Danyluk says GreenTRIP helps provide additional transportation options for Albertans and improves traffic safety.
He says GreenTRIP is making a difference in municipalities large and small and takes vehicles off the road to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown says their regional transit service continues to evolve and hopefully provides good transportation choices for those who work in Calgary.
