Premier says no to upgrading projects

Recent polls suggests a majority of Albertans’ would like to see the province expand the processing of oilsands bitumen.
Other than the multi billion dollar commitment to the North West upgrader, the Redford government has decided to leave such initiatives to industry.
The Calgary Herald reports Premier Allison Redford is not interested in engaging in other upgrading projects.
The mayor of Strathcona county, which is part of the Alberta Industrial Heartland Association, thinks that is a mistake.
“I’m surprised, a bit disappointed, you know par to an election to, I think to be flexible in the future would be the way I think it should go,” said Linda Osinchuk.
Despite the setback, Osinchuk says they will continue to lobby the province and industry leaders to built more upgraders in Alberta.
