Drumheller institution remains under lockdown

The Drumheller Institution remains under lockdown Sunday after three assaults took place at the prison.

The facility was locked down around noon Saturday to allow officials to search the medium security federal penitentiary.

Spokesperson Dawn Bankcroft tells 660News they continue to interview some of the 595 inmates.

“They’re still having a look at it. I think they’re wanting to conduct some interviews with offenders in the population, see if there’s anything they can find out as part of the investigations that are ongoing right now,” Bankcroft says.

Bankcroft says it looks like it will remain status quo until Monday.

Two inmates were taken to hospital after the assaults but both returned Saturday night.

Visits have also been suspended until the search has been completed.
