Redford Tories hold 11 nomination meetings

For Premier Alison Redford’s Progressive Conservatives, yesterday was Super Saturday. The Tories held 11 nomination meetings throughout the province.
The highlights included the race in Calgary-Currie, where incumbent MLA Dave Taylor of the Alberta Party is stepping down. According to the Calgary Herald, school principal Christine Cusanelli will fly the Tory colours in the upcoming election. Among the candidates she beat out included former alderman Jon Lord and riding association president Dale Galbraith.
A similiar situation exists in Calgary-Varsity. The Liberals’ Harry Chase is stepping down as MLA. Lawyer and businesswoman Donna Kennedy-Glans is hoping to nail down the riding for the PC’s.
Jason Luan won the nomination in Calgary-Hawkwood beating out nine other contenders. The constituency is a new one in the city’s northwest.
Other ridings of note: Alderman Kelly Hegg will run in Airdrie in a battle with Wildrose incumbent Rob Anderson.
Canmore Mayor Ron Casey gets the nod in Banff-Cochrane where Tory Janis Tarchuk is stepping down.
John Barlow, the associate publisher of the Okotoks Western Wheel newspaper, will run for the Tories in Highwood against Wildrose leader Danielle Smith.
