Number of STIs is down

There are less cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Alberta.
According to a couple 2010 reports, rates of new STI cases fell for the first time since 2004.
Health and Wellness Minister Fred Horne reports new cases of HIV were the second lowest ever and cases of AIDS were the lowest in the past ten years.
“I am very encouraged that the good work happening on the ground by our public health officials is starting to pay off,” said Horne. “We know, however, that sexually transmitted infections remain an ongoing and serious public health concern. It is so very important that our health experts continue to work together and that Albertans take precautions so we can bring down STIs even more and sustain these gains into the future.”
The graphic STI commercials that ran last year are not part of these two reports.
