Mayor Naheed Nenshi calls in psychologist to address council differences.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi added a medical appointment to Monday’s council agenda; Nenshi set up a closed-door meeting for himself and his council colleagues with Dr. Ivan Zendel.
The psychologist was brought in to help improve the working relationship among council members.
Even though six aldermen voted against the closed-door session, all participated.
The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Alderman Gord Lowe, tells 660News council members get along just fine and he doesn’t know why the mayor brought in so-called professional help.
Lowe says when you have 15 different people, you are going to have different opinions and that will generate some friction.
Former Alderman Ric McIver, who also ran an unsuccessful campaign for the mayor’s chair, calls the get-together silly.
McIver says it appears Nenshi is having trouble getting his agenda approved and is simply trying to shore up support among his council colleagues.
No word on how much the political intervention cost, or if more sessions are in the works.
