Most don’t understand carbon capture: survey
Proponents of carbon capture and storage as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are stressing the need for Canadians to get a better understanding of the technology and its effectiveness.
A new survey showed that a lack of knowledge is less of an issue on the prairies than it is in the rest of Canada.
Less than half of Canadians surveyed say they understand carbon capture storage at all.
The poll shows Canadians believe our climate is changing.
The Director of Carbon Management Canada says that underscores the need to move forward with the technology and make informed decisions in the process.
Richard Adamson says, to a greater degree, those decision-makers are at the community and individual level.
“It’s very important we understand how people see and perceive ccs technologies, where they understand correctly and where they don’t understand correctly,” says Adamson.
The survey reveals just nine per cent of people in Ontario have heard of carbon capture storage and know what it is.
