My World Conference inspires students

Over 850 student leaders in grades 6-9 took part in the fourth annual My World Conference in the city on Wednesday.
The conference allows students to learn from local, national and international organizers and activists about social justice issues and global education.
Students look at ways they can be engaged and inspired to think globally and develop their sense of community.
Conference Chair Bruce Johnston tells 660News, the students listen to keynote speakers and take part in sessions with local agencies including The Mustard Seed and United Way, tackling issues such as food banks, poverty and volunteering.
Johnston says the conference celebrates our student leaders and recognizes the amazing work they do in schools, the community and abroad and inspires them to continue the work.
He says a big part of the message is about the power of one and how one individual can and does make a difference.
He adds, one of the things he takes away from the conference is that we’re in good hands, and the students are doing some amazing and positive things to bring peace to the world.
