Budget day in Alberta

Finance Minister Ron Liepert will table his first and last budget Thursday.
Ahead of tabling the financial blueprint, Liepert bought a pair of $50 shoes at a Winner’s store.
Liepert promises to table what he calls a responsible budget.
Premier Alison Redford says the budget will show the province has turned the corner, after ringing up four consecutive multibillion-dollar deficits.
A political scientist at the University of Calgary predicts the fiscal document will contain a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
Doreen Barrie says it will be very interesting to see the budget balancing act the premier manages to achieve.
Barrie thinks taxes on things like alcohol and tobacco are headed higher, and there could be tweaks to both corporate and personal tax rates as well.
The budget is expected to set the table for this spring’s provincial election.
