SAIT sleds for Olympians

Designers at SAIT hope a little piece of Calgary-made innovation will slide athletes at the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup to the podium this week.
Director Dr. Alex Zahavich says students have been building quality sleds for Team Canada in hopes of securing the gold.
“We have been building skeleton sleds from around 2008 and made a major breakthrough this year with all three men in the World Cup circuit being on SAIT designed and and fabricated prototype sleds”
Zahavich says sled design is a highly competitive field, where they take lots of factors into consideration.
Until now, Canadian athletes have had to spent tens of thousands of dollars to buy used or foreign sleds.
