Residents concerned about drilling close to home

Nearly a thousand residents in the city’s northwest showed up to voice concerns about a oil well being drilled in the area.

Vice president of the Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak Community Association,
Ward Sutherland, says the rules regarding oil wells near urban areas have to be reviewed.

He says the community did not get enough information about the project and residents are concerned about safety and the proximity of the proposed oil well.

The wellsite will be located around 120 metres from a local shopping centre, which falls just outside the boundary that would make residents stakeholders.

The community association has filed an appeal of the approved application.
