Valentines Day Memorial March

Family and friends of missing aboriginal women were participating in the Valentines Day Memorial March at the Scarboro United Church.

The 4th annual event takes place this year in the midst of B.C. inquiry into the deaths and disappearances of women from Vancouver’s downtown eastside.

The Calgary Herald reports that our province is believed to have the second highest number of missing or murdered aboriginal women in Canada.

According to the Native Women’s Association of Canada, more than 90 cases have been identified and over 80 per cent are believed to have been murdered.

They also say more than 500 women and girls have been murdered or gone missing across Canada.
