PCs to vote on Calgary-West candidate

CALGARY – The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta says it has agreed to a recommendation by the Calgary West P.C. Board to hold a new vote to choose their candidate for the coming election.
The association says in a news release that it overturned the initial nomination after several complaints and proof of voting irregularities.
The party originally said with the election looming, Premier Alison Redford would be asked to pick a candidate from among three names submitted by the riding association.
But at its meeting Friday night, the Calgary West board unanimously requested the vote be held again with only the four original candidates being allowed to stand for nomination.
The original four nomination candidates are Mike Ellis, former Alberta Health boss Ken Hughes, Allan Ryan and Shiraz Shariff.
Shariff had originally scored a narrow victory over Hughes but the decision was overturned because of what the party determined was evidence of ineligible voters casting ballots.
