The penguins have plunged into Calgary!
The new $24.5 million exhibit officially opened Friday morning at the Calgary Zoo.
Dr. Clément Lanthier, President and CEO of the Calgary Zoo, said at the opening: “A group of penguins on land is called a “waddle” and today it was exciting for everyone to see first-hand our penguins demonstrating not only the signature walk that inspired that name, but to also witness them “flying” underwater.”
“We hope that the community will embrace everything this new exhibit offers and connect with these charismatic animals. But most important, we hope that a visit to Penguin Plunge will inspire people to care enough about penguins to learn what can be done to make a difference and help save them in the wild.”
The Penguin Plunge is home to 46 of the black and white birds, from all over North America including Montreal, New York, Washington, Texas and as far away as Scotland.
