Canmore rabbits sterilized in Calgary

Dozens of Canmore’s feral rabbits are getting the “snip” this long weekend.
Some of the fluffy animals have been brought to the Calgary Animal Service Centre to be spayed and neutered before being taken to private acreages near the city.
It’s estimated 2,000 rabbits are breeding in Canmore, ruining people’s gardens and potentially attracting cougars and coyotes.
Many of the breeding bunnies are abandoned pets and their offspring.
An animal rescue organization working with the mountain town believes they can keep 25 per cent of the animals in sanctuaries at a cost of $130 per year per bunny covered by private donations.
