City tests green bin program

City officials are launching a pilot recycling project for food and yard waste.
They’re hoping it will be as successful as the blue and black bins.
A green cart is being rolled out to 7500 homes in four Calgary communities with an aim at city-wide composting in the not-too-distant future.
Surveys show 83 per cent of us want the compost pick up but naysayers argue three bins are too many when it comes to storage and curb appeal.
City officials say the three-cart condundrum has been taken into account.
They say there is a preference for a smaller green cart so the cart they’re using for the pilot program is half the size of the other ones.
The pilot green cart program is starting off in Abbeydale, Cougar Ridge, Brentwood and Southwood.
User feedback and statistical results will be presented to council in March of 2013.
