Police looking for help in year old case

A year ago, fire crews responded to a house fire in the Bankview area where they found the body of 57-year-old Roderick Basaraba inside.

Basaraba was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police believe there was an altercation of some sort at the home earlier in the day.

Staff Sgt. Grant Miller says it hasn’t been an easy case to crack.

“This is a very complex crime scene and a very difficult crime to investigate because we have a man that was assaulted and at the same time a house fire,” explains Miller.

He says, “The combination of both is making this investigation challenging.”

Police say there were two people with Basaraba before his death they are now trying to identify.

Those suspects may have been driving a dark-coloured, late 1990’s Jeep Cherokee.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
