Premier optimistic trip stateside will strengthen energy ties

Alberta’s premier is heading-up a small provincial trade delegation on a trip to Chicago, Illinois.
Alison Redford tells 660News, it’s imperative the province not only renew, but strengthen existing energy ties between Canada and the United States.
Redford points out close to 70 per cent of the country’s energy trade business from exports and refining happens in the U.S. Midwest.
The Premier says her itinerary is so busy she has no time for sightseeing.
During her junket, which will cost taxpayers just over $25,000, Redford will deliver a speech to the Executives’ Club of Chicago, visit the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the American Petroleum Institute, the Illinois Petroleum Council and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
Redford says even though a decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline project isn’t expected until after the American Presidential election in the fall, it’s imperative the issue be kept top of mind among U.S. politicians.
Next month, Redford will make her second business trip to Washington D.C. since taking over the province’s top job last fall.
